Serialized in Dengeki Maoh from August 2007 to February 2014.”Lotte no Omocha!”.

A job-hunting man is ordered to join the rear palace (harem) of a man-hating, tsundere princess in the land of demons under unbeatable conditions
The story.

The TV anime was broadcast as “Astarotte no Omocha!” from April to June 2011. It was talked about on the Internet as an anime with many sexy elements that would impress viewers who started watching it for that purpose but ended up watching it.

In this article, we would like to share with you the appeal of the TV animation “Astarotte no Omocha!”.

I started watching anime in the summer of 2011. Since this work falls under the spring anime category, the broadcast had already ended. However, because of the previous season’s animation, I knew and was curious about it through commercials. How much I cared about it was enough to put Lotte in the “wife quota” of the now discontinued service, Wife Collection.

Works recalled by title

When I learned the title of the work, “Astarotte no Omocha!,” it reminded me of “The Familiar of Zero” for some reason. Why, come to think of it, both title names refer to the male protagonist or hero of the work. The “Astarotte no Omocha!” is “Naoya Tohara” and “The Familiar of Zero” is “Saito Hiraga,” aka “stupid dog,” as will be revealed in the early part of the story.

The words for the main heroines of both works are also in the title. “Astarotte” and “Zero,” Ruiz’s full name. The main heroine is voiced by the same actress, Rie Kugimiya, and the tsundere character is also the same.

And the relationships between “Astarotte” and “Naoya” and “Louise” and “Saito” are similar. Both are hierarchical in the beginning of the story, but gradually become less hierarchical as the story progresses.

Tsundere heroine and insensitive protagonist

The tsundere heroine and the insensitive protagonist gradually get closer as the story progresses. The heroine, Tsundere, plays an active role here. The heroine’s tsundere moderately reduces the speed of approach. The distance between the two is flexible, as they can be tsun in the short term but dere in the long term with subsequent dere, or tsun-tsun and dere apart if they get too close. The viewer is drawn to this change in distance in a muddled way.

Inseparable from the tsundere heroine is the insensitive protagonist. Sustains tsundere by not noticing the reason for the heroine’s tsun and by not noticing when the heroine honestly derelicts. This keeps them at a distance from each other. The great thing about the insensitive protagonist is that he does this unconsciously. In this work, one can feel the exquisite distance between such a tsundere heroine and the insensitive protagonist.

Main character is 23 years old and job hunting.

The main characters are usually middle or high school students, but the hero of this work, Naoya, is unusually 23 years old. In the human world, he lived with Asuha (10). Naoya is calm, perhaps because of his age or his personality, and his first impression with Lotte was also successful, making good use of Lotte’s memories.

Episode 3 brings Asuha to the demon world. This is where it comes as a bit of a shock. (In fact, there is a scene in episode 2 where he hesitates to mention this.) This is where the complex relationships that characterise the anime come into view.It is often said that the third episode is important in anime. The work gives little hints about relationships, so it is interesting to consider them each time.
